Un coniglietto<\/strong> malinconico, uno strano orsetto<\/strong>, galline<\/strong>, pinguini<\/strong> e tanti bizzarri gattini<\/strong>, apparentemente una favola moderna pi\u00f9 adatta a un bambino che a un occhio critico? Ma \u00e8 qui che le cose si fanno interessanti…<\/strong>
Stiamo parlando delle opere di Atsushi Kaga<\/strong>, artista giapponese, nato a Tokio nel 1978. I suoi soffici animali sperimentano tossicodipendenza, depressione, microcriminalit\u00e0 e disturbi alimentari. La narrazione \u00e8 stile graphic novel e riflette una sorprendente consapevolezza di s\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La gang \u00e8 guidata da Usacchi<\/strong>, un coniglietto carino, ma un po\u2019 imbroglione che Kaga descrive come il suo alter ego, che interagisce con personaggi per dimostrare le cupe prospettive che attendono le versioni adulte dell\u2019infanzia. Oltre a Usacchi<\/strong>, troviamo Kumacchi<\/strong>, un orso tossicodipendente ferito in seguito ad un incidente d\u2019auto, che rappresenta il lato oscuro di Kaga. In conclusione, nelle sue opere si pone l\u2019accento ai problemi sociali, una sorta di colonia di riabilitazione dei personaggi dei cartoni animati<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I dipinti di Kaga coinvolgono. Nelle opere possiamo osservare una serie di narrazioni sfortunate<\/strong> che sono allo stesso tempo spiritose, dirette e malinconiche<\/strong>.
Le opere sono affascinanti e tristi, e Kaga estrae sottilmente un debole divertimento dal suo pubblico che potrebbe facilmente precipitare in un vuoto psichico inevitabile.
Atsushi Kaga<\/strong> vive e lavora a Dublino<\/strong> e Kyoto<\/strong>, \u00e8 sempre in giro per il mondo per motivi artistici, ci\u00f2 nonostante sono riuscito ad incontrarlo per fargli alcune domande per i lettori di BIANCOSCURO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vincenzo Chetta:<\/strong> Buongiorno Atsushi, come va? \u00c8 un piacere per me fare la tua conoscenza e portare la tua arte ai lettori di BIANCOSCURO<\/strong>.
Atsushi Kaga:<\/em><\/strong>Buongiorno Vincenzo, innanzitutto voglio ringraziarti per la domanda, il piacere \u00e8 tutto mio. Adoro l\u2019Italia, ma soprattutto i maestri del Rinascimento. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V.C.:<\/strong> Ho avuto modo di conoscere le tue opere negli stand della galleria mother\u2019s tankstation<\/strong> durante Art Basel<\/strong>. Il coniglietto Usacchi<\/strong>, che poi ho scoperto essere il tuo alter ego, \u00e8 molto simpatico ed il suo amico Kumacchi<\/strong> \u00e8 un orsacchiotto un po\u2019 complesso, potresti brevemente descriverli\u2026
A.K.: Kumacchi<\/em><\/strong> \u00e8 un orso cronicamente depresso, ha perso una gamba a seguito di un incidente d\u2019auto poco fuori dalla foresta. <\/em>Usacchi<\/em><\/strong> \u00e8 un coniglietto imbroglione, nerd,  ama i gatti ed \u00e8 il migliore amico di <\/em>Kumacchi<\/em><\/strong>. Si sostengono a vicenda in una realt\u00e0 piuttosto dura.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V.C.:<\/strong> Il tuo lavoro \u00e8 \u201cumoristico ma cupo\u201d<\/em>, gran parte del lato scherzoso nasce direttamente dall\u2019oscurit\u00e0.
A.K.:<\/em><\/strong>L\u2019umorismo \u00e8 qualcosa che dobbiamo inventare o creare. L\u2019oscurit\u00e0 \u00e8 qualcosa appena l\u00e0 fuori. Ne \u00e8 pieno nel mondo. Se descrivessi solo quello che c\u2019\u00e8 l\u00e0 fuori, sarebbe molto oscuro. Quindi voglio renderlo pi\u00f9 sopportabile con l\u2019umorismo.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V.C.:<\/strong> Molti i gatti nelle tue opere, in redazione siamo tutti cat-lover, sei anche tu appassionato di gatti?
A.K.:<\/em><\/strong>S\u00ec, sono un cat-lover. Amo i gatti e ora ne ho due. <\/em>Kuniyoshi<\/em><\/strong> e <\/em>Fujita<\/em><\/strong>, sono artisti giapponesi che adoravano i gatti, come noi.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V.C.:<\/strong> Oh\u2026 magnifico! Conosco le opere di Kuniyoshi, maestro del periodo Edo<\/strong>. Tornando a te, dividi la tua vita tra l\u2019Irlanda ed il Giappone, questo influenza le tue opere?
A.K.:<\/em><\/strong>S\u00ec, lo fa immensamente. Non so come influisca sul mio lavoro, ma questo bilinguismo culturale \u00e8 una parte enorme del mio lavoro.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V.C.:<\/strong> Sicuramente hai degli artisti che ti hanno ispirato nel corso della tua vita, vuoi parlarcene?
A.K.:<\/em><\/strong>Sono molti gli artisti che mi hanno ispirato… Per citarne alcuni, Caravaggio, Ogata Kohrin, Ito Jakuchu e Giotto.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V.C.:<\/strong> Ha pi\u00f9 valore l\u2019opera compiuta, o quello che gli spettatori possono pensare dell\u2019opera?
A.K.:<\/em><\/strong>Ci\u00f2 che lo spettatore pensa del mio lavoro \u00e8 pi\u00f9 prezioso. Senza di esso, non avrebbe assolutamente senso farlo.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V.C.:<\/strong> Quali sono i tuoi prossimi progetti?
A.K.:<\/em><\/strong>Ho in progetto una mostra personale alla mother\u2019s tankstation di Dublino a settembre. E sto preparando una collettiva da Jessica Silverman a San Francisco, a settembre.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V.C.:<\/strong> Data la tua esperienza personale, cosa consiglieresti ad un giovanissimo che decide di fare della passione, un lavoro?
A.K.:<\/em><\/strong>Continua a farlo qualunque cosa accada. E ancora, lavorare in una casa di cura ti insegna molto sulla vita e sul mondo. Sarebbe molto pi\u00f9 veloce conoscerli piuttosto che leggere libri o guardare internet.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V.C.:<\/strong> Grazie mille Atsushi sei una persona veramente sensibile e speciale!

L\u2019impegno di Kaga per la storia di Usacchi \u00e8 impressionante<\/strong> sia per il suo candore che per la sua esecuzione tecnica. Gli amanti dell\u2019arte adorano il lavoro di Kaga<\/strong> non solo per le sue composizioni pulite e semplici, ma anche per la sua capacit\u00e0 di perforare silenziosamente la follia sgargiante e appariscente del mondo \u201creale\u201d <\/em>con le osservazioni di un solitario introspettivo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaga ha partecipato a numerose mostre personali e collettive presso musei ed istituzioni internazionali, e collabora attivamente con la mother\u2019s tankstation<\/strong>, con sede a Londra e Dublino.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Atsushi Kaga – Usacchi, Kumacchi and other friends<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

An Melancholy bunny<\/strong>, a strange bear<\/strong>, many bizarre cats<\/strong>, chickens<\/strong>, penguins<\/strong>, apparently a modern fable more suited to a child than to a critical eye? That\u2019s where things get interesting\u2026<\/strong>
We are talking about the works of Atsushi Kaga<\/strong>, Japanese visual artist, working in mixed media, painting, drawing, animation and sculpture. Born in 1978 in Tokyo. The artist got his education at the Tama Art Institute in Tokyo, graduating in 1997, and at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, where he got his BA in Fine Art Painting in 2005. Atsushi also got a diploma at Col\u00e1iste Stiof\u00e1in Naofa, Cork, in 2001.
His fluffy animals experience drug addiction, depression, petty crime and eating disorders. Lines of dialogue, painted in the style of a graphic novel, reflect a startling self-awareness in Kaga\u2019s characters.
The gang is led by Usacchi<\/strong>, a cute but a trickster rabbit, whom Kaga describes as a realization of his alter-ego, interacting with a lot of figures in order to demonstrate the bleak prospects that await the grownup versions of childhood, anthropomorphic friends.
Besides Usacchi<\/strong>, we find Kumacchi<\/strong>, a drug-addicted bear injured in a car accident presents dark side of Kaga. In conclusion think of it as a kind of cartoon-character rehab colony<\/strong>.
Kaga\u2019s paintings truly engage. There, we see a series of unfortunate narratives<\/strong> that are simultaneously witty<\/strong>, straightforward<\/strong>, and melancholy<\/strong>.
The works are charming and wistfully sad, and Kaga subtly extracts a faint amusement from his audience where it could easily plunge into an inescapable psychic void.
Atsushi Kaga<\/strong> lives and works in Dublin and Kyoto, furthermore he is always busy or traveling around the world for artistic reasons, nevertheless I managed to meet him to ask some questions for the readers of BIANCOSCURO<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Atsushi Kaga: <\/em><\/strong>Hi Vincenzo, nice to meet you, the pleasure is mine. I love Italy but above all the masters of the Renaissance… <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V.C.:<\/strong> I saw your works in the booths of the mother\u2019s tankstation<\/strong> gallery during Art Basel<\/strong>. The Usacchi<\/strong> bunny, who I later discovered to be your alter ego, is very nice and his friend Kumacchi<\/strong> is a somewhat complex teddy bear, you could briefly describe them\u2026
A.K.: Kumacchi<\/em><\/strong> is a chronically depressed bear, he lost his leg in a car accident outside a forest.  <\/em>Usacchi<\/em><\/strong> is a trickstar bunny who is the best friend of <\/em>Kumacchi<\/em><\/strong>. <\/em>Usacchi<\/em><\/strong> is a nerd and he loves cats.  They support each other in a rather harsh reality.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V.C.:<\/strong> Your work is \u201chumorous but dark\u201d<\/em>, a lot of the humour comes directly from the darkness
A.K.: <\/em><\/strong>Humour is something we have to invent or create. Darkness is something just out there. It is full of it in the world. If I just described what is out there it would be just very dark. So I want to make it more bearable with humour.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V.C.:<\/strong> There are many cats in your works, in the office we are all cat-lovers, are you also cat-lovers?
A.K.: <\/em><\/strong>Yes, I am. I love cats and have two cats now. <\/em>Kuniyoshi<\/em><\/strong> and <\/em>Fujita<\/em><\/strong> are other Japanese artists who loved cats.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V.C.:<\/strong> Oh\u2026 Wonderful! I Know Kuniyoshi<\/strong>, edo period master<\/strong>. Atshushi, you divide your life between Ireland and Japan, how does this influence your works?
A.K.: <\/em><\/strong>Yes it does immensely. I don\u2019t know how it affects my work. But this culturally bilingualism is a huge part of my work.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V.C.:<\/strong> Surely you have artists who have inspired you throughout your life, do you want to tell us about them?
A.K.: <\/em><\/strong>There are so many.  To name a few, <\/em>Caravaggio<\/em><\/strong>, <\/em>Ogata Kohrin<\/em><\/strong>, <\/em>Ito Jakuchu<\/em><\/strong>, and <\/em>Giotto<\/em><\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V.C.:<\/strong> Is the finished work more valuable, or what viewers can think of the work?
A.K.: <\/em><\/strong>What the viewer thinks of my work is more valuable. Without it, there would be absolutely no point in doing it.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V.C.:<\/strong> What are your next projects?
A.K.: <\/em><\/strong>A solo show at <\/em>mother\u2019s tankstation in Dublin in September<\/em><\/strong>. and a group show at <\/em>Jessica Silverman in San Francisco<\/em><\/strong>, in September.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V.C.:<\/strong> What would you recommend to a young person who decides to turn his passion into a job?
A.K.: <\/em><\/strong>Just keep at it no matter what. And one more, working in a nursing home teaches you a lot about life and the world. It would be a lot quicker to learn about them than reading books or watching the internet.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
